How can families be involved?

Parent Involvement

Creating, building and maintaining strong connections with our families is a high priority at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Parish School.  Parent and family support can come in a variety of ways and can occur on a regular basis or as needed.

Please note: All parents who have direct contact with students must be registered volunteers with OLMC and have up to date child protection clearances.  These clearances can be done through the school at no cost to volunteers.

In the classroom

We welcome the support of parents within classrooms.  If you are available to help out in any way, we encourage you to contact your child’s class teacher.  This may be to listen to reading, help out on an excursion or sports carnival or offer some particular expertise you might have to support the children’s learning.

Canteen

The school canteen is open from Tuesday to Friday for lunch orders and over the counter purchases during playtimes.  If you have some free time and would like to help out in preparing lunches and serving during breaks, please contact our Canteen Coordinator to discuss times/dates you are available to help out.

Parents & Friends Committee

Our school has a vibrant and active Parents and Friends Committee, who support the social life of the school and provide a range of activities for students throughout the year.  Events such as stalls for  Mother’s and Father’s Day, school disco and lunchtime sausage sizzles are just some of the ways the P&F are involved in our community.

We also understand that families are busy and that you may only be able to provide support at some events.  Please don’t let this be a barrier to joining, we are grateful for your support and will gladly utilise any time and expertise you have available.

The School Board

The School Board is responsible for financial management, pastoral care, maintenance, school development & evaluation in partnership with the Principal and Staff of the School. The Board represents all sectors of the community, and parent members of the school board serve for a minimum 12-month term.

The School Board consists of the following Members:

  • Deputy Principal
  • Staff Representative
  • Parent Representatives (Minimum 4) will be nominated each year.
